eCLIC kickoff meeting; the Emergency Communication Leadership and Innovation Center
In our 10/26/06 meeting, three
distinguished speakers from Nortel, Pronto and Lok presented their
experience in deploying large metro wide WiFi networks. There was
extensive and enlightening discussion on their companies WiFi
activities and products
This month we will have A panel of bay area CIOs and city managers
moderated by Sarah Jane Tribble - San Jose Mercury News (see list
below) that will discuss the lessons learned from their WiFi network
deployments.
The questions of "what is the business model?", "who pays for free
service?" and "what is the value of a advertising?" will remain hot
topics. The MetroSIG will explore these questions by bringing the best
speakers from companies and research institutes.
New joint activity: There is a growing
interest in "emergency networks" for disaster situations. We believe
that these networks should be dual mode having both disaster recovery
and commercial operation modes. MetroSIG will organize meetings in
collaboration with eCLIC (Emergency Networks SIG). These joint meetings
will be in addition to all of our existing MetroSIG activities. The
first joint meeting will be on Dec-12. Please see full event agenda
below
MetroSIG is a forum for discussion of all aspects of the Municipal
