Nortel: lesson learned from the largest worldwide WiFi deployment
The summer is over and the MetroSIG is back to its monthly meeting. On 9/26/06, we will have two distinguished speakers from HP and Cisco. They will present their experience in deploying metro wide WiFi networks, as well as discuss their companies WiFi activities and products.
The subjects of "What is the business model?" and "Who pays for free service?" and "what is the value of a local user?" will remain hot topics. The MetroSIG will explore these questions by bringing the best speakers from companies and research institutes.
There is a growing interest in "emergency networks" for disaster situations. We believe that these networks should be dual mode disaster / commercial modes. In their commercial mode these networks will serve their communities and will generate benefit and revenues for their operators. MetroSIG will conduct emergency networks SIG meetings, in addition to all our existing activities. The first meeting will be on Dec-12.
MetroSIG is a forum for discussion of all aspects of the Municipal broadband trends. Monthly meetings are conducted around key topics related to Municipal WiFi/wireless. The format of the meeting encourages an active interchange among all attendees.
